History
Kōen-Kami Station opened on 1921-12-01 with the inauguration of the Hakone Tozan Cable Car Line; its name refers to its position above Gōra Park, complementing the lower Kōen-Shimo station 240 metres downhill. Operation passed to Odakyu Hakone on 2024-04-01 as part of an Odakyu Group restructure of its Hakone businesses. The unattended station has opposed side platforms either side of the single funicular track, 0.48 km from the Gōra terminus, and provides the closest stop to the Hakone Museum of Art.

Notes
Bus stop just outside is named for the adjacent Hakone Museum of Art (Hakone Bijutsukan) rather than the station itself.
