History

Neu Station opened on 30 July 1922 as the temporary terminus of the Railway Ministry's Hakubi North Line, with track extended onward to Kurosaka in November the same year. The Hakubi North Line was incorporated into the through Hakubi Line in 1928. Freight handling ended on 7 November 1982 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. The station passed to JR West at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. ICOCA support was added on 17 December 2016 via a simplified IC gate. The Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office is scheduled to close on 20 February 2026 and the station is to be unstaffed from 1 April 2026.

Neu is the principal station of Hino Town and roughly half of all Yakumo limited expresses on the Hakubi Line stop here, typically passing through the neighbouring Shoyama Station as a trade-off.
