History

Takamiya Station opened on 11 June 1898 with the Hikone-Echigawa segment of the Ohmi Railway Main Line. The 2.5 km Taga branch to Taga Taisha-mae diverges here from 8 March 1914, making the station a small junction. The present station building, which combines a tile-roofed sukiya-style ticket hall with a community centre, opened on 29 March 2002, while the older platform canopy and a vintage "norikae" interchange sign were kept in place. The station became fully unstaffed on 1 March 2026.

Notes

Trains stopping here have the rare habit of an in-cab transfer announcement: the driver, not just the conductor, makes the connection call by hand microphone, a practice the Ohmi Railway maintains only at Takamiya and Yokaichi.
