History
Hira Station opened on 1 December 1991 at Hira 3-chōme, Nishi-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, as a station on the JR Central Transport Service (TKJ) Jōhoku Line. The first section of the line, from Kachigawa to Owari-Hoshinomiya, opened on that date; the remaining section through to Biwajima followed on 18 March 1993.

Although Hira Station is located inside the city of Nagoya, the Jōhoku Line does not accept Manaca, TOICA or any other IC card, and as a result Nagoya's elderly free-ride keirō pass cannot be used here either; the station's ridership is the lowest of any railway station within Nagoya City.
