History
Shōnai-dōri Station opened on 6 September 1984 as an intermediate stop on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Tsurumai Line, when the line was extended from Jōshin to Shōnai-Ryokuchikōen. Located in Shōnai-dōri 3-chōme in Nishi-ku, the underground station carries the code T03. Because the section between Shōnai-dōri and Shōnai-Ryokuchikōen runs beneath the Shōnai River, a watertight bulkhead door was built between the two stations as a flood safeguard. Barrier-free elevators were added in March 2012, and platform-edge doors were brought into service on 25 November 2024.

Notes
Because the line between Shōnai-dōri and Shōnai-Ryokuchikōen passes under the Shōnai River, the Tsurumai Line was built with a watertight bulkhead door between the two stations as flood protection.
