History
Obata Station opened on 2 April 1905 on the privately operated Seto Electric Railway, in present-day Moriyama-ku, Nagoya. The Seto Electric Railway was absorbed into the Meitetsu group on 1 September 1939 and the stop has been on the Meitetsu Seto Line ever since. Two opposed side platforms can handle trains of up to six cars, and a new station building was completed in 1999-2000. The station is now unstaffed and equipped with automated ticket machines and Manaca turnstiles. In fiscal 2017 it averaged about 6,650 passengers daily.
