History

Hiranda Station opened on 2 October 1990 on a new alignment of the Ōigawa Railway Ikawa Line, built when part of the line was re-routed to avoid the rising waters of the lake created by the Nagashima Dam.

Notes

Hiranda is a ground-level halt with a single side platform serving one track and a small passenger shelter; there is no station building and the station is unstaffed. Surrounded by forest in an isolated mountain area, it has very few passengers — fiscal 2017 boardings averaged just 0.3 per day. The former Kawane-Karasawa Station, the deserted predecessor that sat slightly south of the present site, now lies under Sesso Lake, the artificial reservoir created by the Nagashima Dam. The Okuoi Sesso Lake canoe-competition site and Tengu-ishi Chaya — a teahouse 2.7 km away run by local women — are within travel range. The station was featured as the focus of episode 3 of the 2022 TV Tokyo drama 'Tetsuota Michiko, 2 Man Kilo'.
