History

Motoyama Station opened on 1 April 1963 on the Nagoya Municipal Subway's Higashiyama Line, in Chikusa-ku. The Meijō Line section reached the station on 13 December 2003, making it an interchange between the two lines. Platform-screen doors became operational on the Higashiyama Line on 20 December 2015 and on the Meijō Line in late 2020. The Meijō Line platform lies roughly 23 metres below ground, the second-deepest underground platform in the Nagoya Municipal Subway network after Marunouchi on the Sakura-dōri Line. Three ticket gates serve the station, with a south gate added at the time of the Meijō Line opening.

Notes

Once the closest subway station to Nagoya University, Motoyama lost that role after the 2003 opening of the Meijō Line section put Nagoya University Station inside the campus itself.
