History

Hibino Station opened on 19 December 1907 at Higashi-Tamen, Yunoki-chō, Aisai, Aichi Prefecture, on the privately held Bisai Railway (Bisai Tetsudō), to provide convenient access for the head office and factory of Hibino Anzen Hiryō Co. (Hibino Safety Fertilizer). The company's owner, Hibino Monzaemon, had been the leading opponent of railway construction before the line opened, but afterwards switched sides and actively lobbied for a station, even providing the necessary land — the station is named after him. A freight siding was added on 1 July 1964 to replace the one removed during the elevation of Tsushima Station. Freight handling ended on 31 May 1983. The station was de-staffed on 14 July 2005 with the introduction of the Tranpass system and the unified station-management system. The Manaca IC card came into service on 11 February 2011, and Tranpass operation ended on 29 February 2012.

Notes

The station was named after Hibino Monzaemon, head of Hibino Anzen Hiryō (Safety Fertilizer), who had originally been the chief opponent of building the railway through the area but, once the line was complete, reversed course and not only lobbied actively for a station here but personally donated the land for its construction — a station named after the man who once tried to stop it.
