History
Gokiso Station opened on 18 March 1977 as a Tsurumai Line stop in Nagoya's Shōwa Ward, becoming an interchange when the Sakura-dōri Line reached it on 30 March 1994. Both lines run deep beneath the surface here — the Sakura-dōri platform sits roughly 22 m underground — and a cross-platform passageway makes the transfer notably brisk compared with Marunouchi. Platform-edge doors were installed on the Sakura-dōri Line on 28 May 2011 and on the Tsurumai Line on 8 September 2025. The station carries the secondary name "Shōwa Ward Office" on signage to mark the adjacent municipal building.

Notes
Despite both lines running through, transfers at Gokiso take noticeably less time than at Marunouchi station, where switching trains is reported to take over three minutes.
