History
Takabata Station opened on 21 September 1982 as the western terminus of the Nagoya Municipal Subway Higashiyama Line, when the line was extended from Nakamura-kōen. Located in Nakagawa Ward, Nagoya, it occupies an underground island platform serving two tracks, with three stabling sidings beyond the platform end. The station name standard bears the subtitle Nakagawa Ward Office, reflecting a nearby municipal facility. IC card travel using manaca began on 11 February 2011, and on 7 September 2015 the station became the first on the Higashiyama Line to operate movable platform-edge barriers.

Notes
The neighbouring Arako district was the birthplace of Maeda Toshiie, founder of the Kaga clan, and the station sits within an area that lies at zero metres above sea level.
