History
Ōhara Station opened on 3 December 1994 with the opening of the Chizu Express Chizu Line in Furumachi, Mimasaka, Okayama. In August 2009 the Kamigōri–Ōhara section was put out of service by flood damage from Typhoon No. 9; "Super Hakuto" services resumed on 12 August using a replacement bus between Hirafuku and Ōhara, and full operation through the Chizu Line returned on 29 August. From 3 December 2018 the staffed ticket window began accepting transport IC cards (except PiTaPa), e-money, credit and debit cards, although the line itself does not accept IC fare cards. ICOCA adoption is scheduled for spring 2027.

Notes
Ōhara is the only limited-express stop in the Okayama Prefecture section of the Chizu Line; "Super Hakuto" (Keihanshin–Tottori), "Super Inaba" (Okayama–Tottori), and the seasonal "Victory Hakuto" run on Tottori University's second-stage examination day all stop here.
