History
Akaike Station opened on 1 October 1978 as the terminus of the Nagoya Municipal Subway Tsurumai Line, in what is now Akaike 1-chōme, Nisshin, Aichi. The Meitetsu Toyota Line opened from the opposite direction on 29 July 1979, and through-running between the two networks began the same day. The shared station has two underground island platforms serving three tracks, with the Toyota Line tunnel climbing immediately east to viaduct level. Transpass smart-fare service was added in 2003, wheelchair-accessible lifts and toilet facilities in late 2009, and manaca IC service on 11 February 2011. Platform-edge doors are scheduled to enter service in May and June 2026.
