History
Sohara Station opened on April 5, 1914 as a station of the Hokusei Railway in what is now Inabe, Mie Prefecture. The operator was renamed Hokusei Electric Railway on June 27, 1934, merged into Mie Kōtsū in 1944, and transferred to Mie Electric Railway in 1964 before becoming part of Kintetsu on April 1, 1965. A new station building was completed on September 22, 1992. On April 1, 2003 the Hokusei Line was transferred to Sangi Railway as a separate company; automatic ticket gates were installed in December 2003 and remote operation from Tōin Station began on June 1, 2005. The station has two opposed side platforms and is staffed only during peak periods.
