History

Ishii Station, in the town of Sayō in Hyōgo Prefecture, opened on 3 December 1994 with the inauguration of the Chizu Express Chizu Line, the third-sector semi-public railway built to link the San'yō Main Line at Kamigōri with Tottori Prefecture. It is 27.1 kilometres from the line's terminus at Kamigōri. The station was originally to be named Shimo-Ishii under the line's construction plan. Service was briefly suspended in August 2009 after heavy rain from Typhoon Etau damaged the line, but full operation resumed at the end of that month. The station is unattended and consists of a single elevated side platform with a log-cabin-style shelter at ground level.
