History
Kuse Station opened on 1 May 1924 as the terminus of the JNR Sakubi Line (now the Kishin Line) when it was extended from Mimasaka-Oiwake. Less than a year later, on 15 March 1925, the line was extended further to Chūgoku-Katsuyama and Kuse became a through station. The line was renamed Kishin in October 1936 after its connection between Tsuyama and Niimi was completed. Freight handling ended on 13 May 1973 and parcel service on 14 March 1985; the station became a low-staffed kan'i itaku contract station on 1 November 1986. At JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West, which operates it today.

Notes
Kuse is the closest station to Maniwa City Hall and is listed as the city's representative station in JTB's national timetable, even though the neighbouring Chūgoku-Katsuyama Station handles more passengers.
