History

Miyakehachiman Station is an unstaffed two-platform stop on the Eizan Electric Railway Main Line in Sakyō-ku, Kyoto (station number E07). It opened on 1925-09-27 as part of the Kyoto Dentō-operated Eizan Electric Railway flat-line section. On 1942-03-02 Kyoto Dentō's rail and tramway operations were transferred to the newly formed Keifuku Electric Railroad, making it a Keifuku Eizan Main Line station. The line was spun off as the present-day Eizan Electric Railway on 1986-04-01, and the station has continued under that operator since. The railings and platform-canopy posts are painted vermilion in reference to Miyake Hachimangū, the shrine from which the station takes its name.

Notes

Although Miyake Hachimangū shrine is closer to Hachimanmae Station on the Kurama Line, this station sits on the shrine's traditional main approach and the shrine's red torii can be seen from the platform.
