History

Matsugasaki Station opened on 3 June 1997, when the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line was extended one stop north from Kitayama to Kokusaikaikan in Sakyō-ku. The station sits underneath Kitayama-dōri, with all structures except the surface stairs below ground: a concourse on B1, an island platform serving two tracks on B2, and two exits flanking the road with an escalator on the east side and a lift on the west. ICOCA-compatible PiTaPa was added on 1 April 2007.

Notes

Every August 16th, the "Myō" and "Hō" characters of Kyoto's Gozan no Okuribi bonfires burn on the hills directly north of the station.
