History

Ichijōji Station opened on 27 September 1925 as a stop on the Eizan Heitan Line of Kyoto Dentō, the electric utility that built the line. The station was later relocated approximately 100 metres towards the Demachiyanagi end, though the exact date is not recorded. On 2 March 1942 the railway business of Kyoto Dentō was transferred to Keifuku Electric Railroad, and the station became part of the Keifuku Eizan Main Line. On 1 April 1986 Keifuku transferred the line to the new Eizan Electric Railway, under which the station now operates as E04. The station has two opposed side platforms and is normally unstaffed, with staff posted only during weekday mornings and busier weekends.

Notes

The street west of the station along Higashiōji-dōri is lined with Kyoto-style ramen restaurants and has come to be known locally as Ramen Street or Ramen Ginza, catering largely to students from the nearby universities.
