History
Asahino Station opened on 28 December 1900 as a stop on what is now the Ohmi Railway Main Line, serving Higashiōmi in Shiga Prefecture. The unstaffed station has a single side platform serving a single bi-directional track, although it once had two opposed platforms with two tracks. The station building has been removed in favour of a simple platform shelter; passengers enter the platform directly. The platform straddles the boundary between Higashiōmi and the neighbouring town of Hino. The station was planned to serve the never-built Biwako Airport.

Notes
Asahino was designated as the projected nearest railway station to Biwako Airport, a planned airport that was eventually abandoned before construction.
