History
Nijōjō-mae Station is an underground station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tōzai Line in Nakagyō-ku, Kyoto, operated by the Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau. It opened on 12 October 1997 with the inauguration of the Tōzai Line between Daigo and Nijō stations. Located beneath the Oshikoji-dori junction just southeast of Nijō Castle, the station carries the number T14 and is signed in persimmon as its assigned station colour. The name was originally planned to be "Horikawa" after the major north-south street above, but was changed to Nijōjō-mae on 18 March 1996 in deference to the tourist landmark. Exit 2 opened on 30 March 1999, and PiTaPa IC card acceptance was added on 1 April 2007.

Notes
Inside the station, glass display cases hold archaeological finds — including artefacts from the adjacent Shinsen-en site — that were unearthed during construction of the Tōzai Line.
