History

Nishiōji Oike Station opened on 16 January 2008 when the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tōzai Line was extended westward from Nijō to Uzumasa Tenjingawa, in Nakagyō Ward, Kyōto. The station was provisionally called Nishiōji during planning, but the final name was taken from the Nishiōji Oike intersection directly above; in a February 2007 public name survey, the shorter Nishiōji had attracted 41 percent of responses while Nishiōji Oike drew 16 percent. The underground station has an island platform serving two tracks, with full-height platform screen doors and a single ticket-gate concourse. The line's station-colour scheme assigns sunflower yellow to Nishiōji Oike.

Notes

Some of the street-level entrances feature glass-walled see-through structures, a design touch shared with several other Tōzai Line stations.
