History
Kamenokō Station opened on 21 December 1898 with the inauguration of the Chūgoku Railway Main Line, today's Tsuyama Line, and serves as the central station of Misaki Town in Okayama Prefecture. The Chūgoku Railway's rail operations were nationalised on 1 June 1944, placing the station on the JNR Tsuyama Line. Freight handling was withdrawn on 14 November 1971 and parcel service ended in February 1984. The station was de-staffed in December 1985, then passed to JR West at privatisation on 1 April 1987. The municipality of Kume-Chūō spent ¥60 million to rebuild it in the shape of a turtle shell, completed on 9 August 1995.

Notes
The 1995 octagonal station house carries a literal turtle head on its roof, with the eyes replaced by working clocks; turtle sculptures and references are scattered through the platform area.
