History
Pref. Art Museum Station opened on 25 March 1986 as the newest stop on the Shizuoka Railway Shizuoka-Shimizu Line, established to serve the relocated Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art. It lies 5.7 km from the line's starting point at Shin-Shizuoka, in Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka, and carries station number S09. The English signage was updated to "Pref. Art Museum" on 1 October 2011. The two opposed side platforms are crossed by a station building built above the tracks on the Shin-Shizuoka end, equipped with automatic ticket machines and turnstiles that accept the LuLuCa, PiTaPa and ICOCA fare cards. Only local trains stop here; express and commuter-express services pass through.

Notes
Although the station is the nearest stop to the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art, reaching the museum still requires a continuous climb up an extended hill from the platforms.
