History
Asakura Station serves the Meitetsu Tokoname Line in Chita, Aichi, 16.4 kilometres from the line's starting point at Jingū-mae. It opened on 3 April 1923 as a station on the Aichi Electric Railway, which merged into Meitetsu on 1 August 1935. The station was made unattended in February 1967 but staff were reassigned in July 1975, and the tracks were elevated on 26 September 1982. A shopping arcade named Station Plaza opened beneath the elevated tracks on 23 June 1983. Limited expresses began full-time stops on 29 January 2005, confirming the station's role as the city of Chita's representative station. From 21 December 2024 it became a 'special-duty' station with staff present only from 07:30–12:00 and 13:00–19:30.
