History

Furushō Station serves the Shizuoka–Shimizu Line of the Shizuoka Railway in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka, 3.8 kilometres from the line's terminus at Shin-Shizuoka. It opened on 9 December 1908. The station has two opposed side platforms but no internal connection between them — there is no level crossing, footbridge or underpass within the fare-paid zone — so passengers must use separate ticket gates on each platform. A new station building entered service on 13 January 2024, eliminating the old in-platform crossing and dividing the up and down concourses entirely. Until the timetable revision of 31 March 1996 the station was an express stop; express service then ceased entirely until 2011, after which express trains pass through and only commuter-express trains towards Shin-Shizuoka stop here.
