History

Itō Station opened on 15 December 1938 with the completion of the Itō Line section linking Ajiro with Itō. On 10 December 1961 the Izu Kyūkō Line began operations from Itō to Shimoda, with through services running over the JNR's tracks from the Itō side. Scheduled freight ceased on 1 October 1980 but was resumed on 31 March 1987, days before the privatisation of the JNR on 1 April 1987 transferred passenger operations to East Japan Railway Company. The station carries a single island platform for tracks 1 and 2 and one side platform for track 3, all connected by an underpass; Izu Kyūkō trains use the outer tracks while Itō Line services reverse out of track 2.

Notes

Itō Line trains arrive at the middle track, reverse, and depart in the opposite direction, while the outer tracks are reserved for through services running onto the Izu Kyūkō Line toward Shimoda.
