History

Obara Station opened on 1 October 1956 on the Tsuyama Line in what is now the town of Misaki, Kume District, Okayama Prefecture. The station passed from Japanese National Railways to JR West on 1 April 1987 at privatisation. It consists of a single ground-level side platform serving one bi-directional track, with no station building; passengers reach the platform directly. A new glazed rain shelter was completed in March 2020. Obara lies 45.5 kilometres from the line's southern terminus at Okayama and is unstaffed; in fiscal 2019 it averaged about 32 passengers a day.
