History
Ono Station opened on 12 October 1997 with the inaugural Daigo-to-Nijō segment of the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tōzai Line. Construction had started on 3 July 1995 and the station's facilities were completed on 31 January 1997. PiTaPa IC cards became usable on 1 April 2007. The platform is a single island with screen doors, and the station holds a pull-out track toward the Daigo depot that was pressed into service when Misasagi Station flooded in September 2013.

The place name 小野 honours the Ono clan of the Heian-period poet Ono no Komachi; a well at nearby Zuishin-in is still said to be where she did her makeup.
