History

Shigarakigūshi Station opened on July 13, 1987 as a station of the third-sector Shigaraki Kohgen Railway's Shigaraki Line, in present-day Kōka, Shiga Prefecture, 9.6 km from the line's starting point at Kibukawa. The station name is derived from the nearby ruins of the eighth-century Shigaraki Palace. The unstaffed stop consists of a single bi-directional side platform with no station building; a public toilet stands beside the platform, and the path leading to it doubles as part of the Tōkai Nature Trail.
