History

Hekinan-chuo Station is a stop on the Meitetsu Mikawa Line in Hekinan, Aichi Prefecture. It opened on 5 February 1914 as a temporary halt on the privately owned Mikawa Railway, operating only during the summer vacation season to serve beachgoers. It was promoted to a regular station on 10 July 1915 and named Shin-Suma Station after the Shin-Suma resort area at the coast. The Mikawa Railway was absorbed into Meitetsu on 1 June 1941, bringing the station into the larger network. It was renamed to its present name Hekinan-chuo on 14 December 1981. The station has a single side platform serving bi-directional traffic, automated Tranpass turnstiles, and is unattended; in fiscal 2017 it averaged 4,484 boarding passengers per day.
