History

Gansuiji Station opened on 1 June 1940 when the Ministry of Railways Futamata Line was extended from Enshū-Mori to Kanasashi. Parcel services were discontinued in June 1970 and the station was destaffed at the same time; freight operations ended in April 1973. Along with the rest of the line, the station was transferred to the third-sector Tenryū Hamanako Railroad on 15 March 1987 and reverted to a single side platform (from the earlier island arrangement). The platform shelter and the platform itself have been protected as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan since 26 January 2011.

Notes

Despite the shared name, Gansuiji Station and the Enshū-Tetsudō line's nearby Enshū-Gansuiji Station are some distance apart; this station is the closer of the two to the actual Gansu-ji temple.
