History

Miyanosaka Station opened on 11 September 1940 under the name Chūgū Station, on what is now the Keihan Katano Line in Hirakata, Osaka Prefecture. It took its present name Miyanosaka on 20 June 1971. The station sits 1.0 kilometre from the line's terminus at Hirakatashi and is operated by the Keihan Electric Railway. The platforms are elevated, with two opposed side platforms above the station building. The surrounding area is residential and home to several historical and civic landmarks, including the Kudara-dera ruins and Kudara Shrine, as well as the Osaka Prefectural Psychiatric Medical Center. The Keihan Katano Line is a short branch from Hirakatashi to Katanoshi, primarily serving local commuters between the two cities.

Notes

Although now sandwiched in a dense residential district, the station's name change in 1971 from Chūgū to Miyanosaka shifted its identification away from the old village of Chūgū to the rising hillside neighbourhood whose name it bears today.
