History

Kōwaguchi Station opened on 1 July 1932 as a station on the Chita Railway, in what is now the town of Mihama in Aichi Prefecture. The Chita Railway was absorbed into Meitetsu on 1 February 1943. Freight services ended in fiscal 1961, and the station became unstaffed on 16 February 1985. In March 2007 the Tranpass card system was introduced, replaced by Manaca on 11 February 2011. From the 26 March 2011 timetable revision, all trains including limited expresses began calling here. The 18 March 2023 revision raised midday service to four trains per hour, and from 16 March 2024 most local services were upgraded to expresses.
