History

Sanyo-Temma Station opened on 27 April 1941 as Dentetsu-Tenma Station, the terminus of an extension of the Sanyo Railway Aboshi Line from Hirohata, in what is now Ōtsu-ku of Himeji, Hyōgo Prefecture. The line was further extended to Dentetsu-Aboshi (now Sanyo-Aboshi) on 6 July of the same year, making the station an intermediate stop. The station building was rebuilt on 5 May 1972. It was renamed Sanyo-Temma Station on 7 April 1991. Today it is an unstaffed two-platform station designated SY 54, at 5.6 kilometres from the Aboshi Line’s eastern terminus at Shikama. Because the Aboshi Line is single-track, midday inbound trains use the station to pass each other.
