History

Katanoshi Station opened on 10 July 1929 as Katano Station, the day Shigi Ikoma Electric Railway brought the Hirakata Line into service. Ownership passed to Katano Electric Railway in May 1939, to Keihanshin Express in May 1945, and back to Keihan Electric Railway on 1 December 1949 when the companies were separated. The track between Murano and Katanoshi was double-tracked on 2 April 1972 and the section onward to Kawachimori followed on 29 May 1987. The station was renamed Katanoshi on 1 November 1977, six years after the surrounding municipality became Katano City. An overhead station building opened on 23 November 1994, complemented by lifts, an air-conditioned waiting room, and the Keihan Katano Building completed in March 1995.

Notes

Katanoshi was named "Katano" at opening, but the city of Katano did not exist for another forty-two years; the station's renaming to match the city in 1977 came a full six years after the municipality changed its own name.
