History

Kamikawatachi Station opened on 28 April 1915 as Kawatachi Station (川立駅) when the Geibi Railway began operations. On 1 July 1937, when the Geibi Railway was nationalised, the station was renamed Kamikawatachi (上川立駅). Freight handling was discontinued on 1 October 1960, and on 20 December 1971 the station was downgraded from a directly-staffed station to a simplified-entrusted unstaffed station, also ending parcel handling. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, it passed to JR West. The station was closed on 6 July 2018 by typhoon flood damage; service resumed on 4 April 2019 with provisional operations between Miyoshi and Naka-Mita, and on 1 October 2019 the simplified-entrustment arrangement ended, leaving the station fully unstaffed.

Notes

The station building is shared with the local Kawatachi simplified post office and a general goods centre; a farm cooperative branch was also formerly housed there.
