History
Sekime-Takadono Station opened on 6 April 1977 as Sekime Station (関目駅) when the Osaka Municipal Subway Tanimachi Line was extended between Miyakojima and Moriguchi. At the request of the local neighbourhood association, the name later came to be written as "Sekime (Takadono)", and on 29 August 1997 the name was formally changed to Sekime-Takadono. With the privatisation of the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau on 1 April 2018, the station passed to Osaka Metro (Osaka Metropolitan Rapid Electric Tramway Co., Ltd.). Platform screen doors entered service on 12 September 2025.

Notes
The station name combines two adjacent district names: Sekime in Jōtō Ward and Takadono in Asahi Ward. Although the station sits beneath the road that forms the boundary between the two wards, its official address is in Takadono, Asahi Ward.
