History

Tanimachi Yonchōme Station opened on 24 March 1967 as the terminus of the new Osaka Municipal Subway Line 2 (now the Tanimachi Line) extension from Higashi-Umeda. Six months later, on 30 September 1967, it became a transfer point when Line 4 (now the Chūō Line) arrived from Morinomiya. The Tanimachi Line was extended south to Tennōji in December 1968, and the Chūō Line was extended west to Hommachi a year later, leaving the station as an intermediate stop on both lines. With the privatisation of the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau on 1 April 2018 the station came under Osaka Metro; platform-edge doors were installed on the Chūō Line in March 2024 and on the Tanimachi Line in January 2025.
