History

Gakuen-Toshi Station opened on 18 June 1985 as the new terminus of the Kobe Municipal Subway when the Seishin-Yamate Line was extended from Myōdani. It became an intermediate station on 18 March 1987, when the line was further extended to Seishin-Chūō. The station is built around the Kobe Research Park academic district; the surrounding area is home to the University of Hyogo, Kobe City University of Foreign Studies, Kobe City College of Nursing, the University of Marketing and Distribution Sciences, Kobe Design University, and several other schools. The station was damaged in the 17 January 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake; single-track operation between Myōdani and Gakuen-Toshi resumed the following day, and full double-track service returned by 25 January 1995. Platform-edge doors entered service in 2022.
