History

Kita Futo Station opened on 5 February 1981 as part of Kobe New Transit's elevated Port Island Line (Port Liner), the world's first automated guideway transit system to enter commercial operation. Sited on the western side of reclaimed Port Island in Chūō-ku, Kobe, the station serves only the northbound loop towards Sannomiya. The line was suspended in full following the Great Hanshin earthquake on 17 January 1995; the section through Kita Futo reopened on 22 May and 5 June 1995. The route was closed again briefly in November 2004 and September 2005 during track-switching works for the line's extension to Kobe Airport, which opened on 2 February 2006.

Notes

Because Kita Futo lies on the single-direction loop section of the Port Liner, trains here only run northbound — riders bound for Kobe Airport must transfer one stop later at Naka Koen.
