History
Nishinokyō Station opened on 1 April 1921 as a stop on the Osaka Electric Tramway Unebi Line — today Kintetsu Railway's Kashihara Line — in Nara, Nara Prefecture. The operating company became Kansai Express Railway in 1941 through merger with Sangu Express Railway, and then part of the newly formed Kintetsu network in 1944. In 1996 the station was rebuilt as an underground structure, with the concourse and ticket gates below ground and the platforms above ground level. The station now consists of two opposed side platforms with six-car effective length and is served by the Kashihara Line at 2.8 kilometres from Yamato-Saidaiji.

Notes
The station's grounds sit between the World Heritage Buddhist temples Yakushi-ji and Tōshōdai-ji, both within walking distance, and the station is a primary access point for visitors to both.
