History

Shiroshita Stop opened on 5 May 1912 with the inauguration of the Eki-mae (now Okayama Eki-mae)-O-shiroshita section, originally as Uenoshō Stop about 100 m further along the line. It was abolished on 18 March 1943, then revived on 8 April 1949. On 20 December 1954, with the integration of the Banchō Line junction station 'O-shiroshita Stop' (御城下停留場), the Uenoshō Stop was abolished as part of consolidation - and the renamed Shiroshita Stop took on the Uenoshō Stop's name. After the Banchō Line was closed on 1 June 1968, Uenoshō Stop was revived again. It was renamed Omotemachi-iriguchi Stop on 17 October 1970. On 1 July 1985 the stop was relocated 100 m towards the line origin and renamed Shiroshita.

Notes

Shiroshita is on the Okayama Electric Tramway Higashiyama Line (stop H04), serving as the nearest stop to Kōraku-en garden and Okayama Castle. The stop has a single island platform serving two tracks. Stairs at the Higashiyama end descend to 'Shirochika', an underground plaza beneath the intersection that connects directly to the Okayama Symphony Hall opposite the stop, and provides street-grade-free access to Kōraku-en and the Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art areas.
