History

Ichishi Station opened on 20 January 1938 as Ise-Tajiri Station on the Japanese Government Railways Meishō Line, initially passenger-only. Through-passenger restrictions were lifted on 1 October 1947, when parcel handling also began. On 1 October 1968, the station was relocated 300 metres towards Matsusaka and renamed Ichishi alongside a new station building. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, simple-service contracts were terminated in April 1986 (leaving the station fully unstaffed) and JR Central took over on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR. Today it has a single side platform and a simple barrier-style shelter; Kintetsu's Kawai-Takaoka Station sits roughly 150 metres to the north.

Notes

Although the JR Central and Kintetsu stations sit two minutes' walk apart, no through-fare arrangement was ever established — riders must buy separate tickets to transfer.
