History
Sanyo-Akashi Station opened on 12 April 1917 as Akashi-ekimae Station on the line that is now the Sanyo Electric Railway Main Line. It was renamed Akashi Station on 19 August 1923 and again to Dentetsu-Akashi Station on 20 November 1943, before assuming its current name on 7 April 1991. Located in the city of Akashi in Hyōgo Prefecture, it sits 15.7 kilometres from the line terminus at Nishidai. The station today has two elevated island platforms with the staffed station building beneath them, and stands directly adjacent to the larger JR West Akashi Station that handles Sanyō Main Line traffic.
