History
Nishi-Maiko Station opened on 12 April 1917 as Yamada Station (山田駅) when the Hyogo Electric Tramway extended its line from Shioya (now Sanyo-Shioya) towards Akashi. The station was absorbed into Ujikawa Electric on 1 April 1927 and moved on 8 December 1928. When the railway department of Ujikawa Electric was spun off on 6 June 1933 the station became part of the Sanyo Electric Railway. It was renamed Maiko Station on 1 August 1935 and to its present name Nishi-Maiko in 1937. From the 25 March 1984 timetable revision no premium services stopped here, and the line was disrupted between January and 27 January 1995 by the Great Hanshin earthquake.

The station has been renamed twice: opened as Yamada in 1917, becoming Maiko in 1935 and Nishi-Maiko in 1937 — within two decades of opening.
