History

Port Town-higashi Station opened on 16 March 1981 with the inauguration of the Osaka Municipal Nankō Port Town Line, an automated rubber-tyred "New Tram" serving the reclaimed Nankō port area of Suminoe Ward. The elevated station has a single island platform with two tracks and full-height platform-screen doors, with the concourse and ticket gate underneath. The municipal operator was corporatised on 1 April 2018 and the station passed to Osaka Metro. The station is staffed and serves as the administrative hub of the South Port traffic office, overseeing the neighbouring Port Town-nishi and Ferry Terminal stations.

Notes

Despite being a mid-line station rather than a terminus, Port Town-higashi is staffed and serves as the administrative seat for the surrounding South Port stretch — it manages both Port Town-nishi and the Ferry Terminal station next door.
