History

Bingo-Mikawa Station opened on 28 July 1938 as part of the Ministry of Railways' extension of the Fukuen Line from Fuchū to Jōge. Operations were trimmed to a commission-managed staff in 1970 and reduced again to simplified commission in 1985. On 20 April 1989 the route between Bingo-Mikawa and Kawasa was rerouted through the new Hattawara Tunnel to clear the way for the Hattawara Dam, and the intermediate Hattabara Station on the old alignment was abolished. The station passed to JR West at the 1987 privatisation of JNR, and the present log-cabin-style station building was completed in 1990.

Notes

Bingo-Mikawa is the only Fukuen Line station whose municipality is a "town" rather than a city — the sole rail station in Sera, despite sitting on the edge of town away from the centre — and part of its log-cabin building doubles as a local meeting hall.
