History

Iwami-Yokota Station opened on 1 April 1923 when Japan Government Railways extended the Yamaguchi Line from Tsuwano to Masuda, serving the present-day city of Masuda in Shimane Prefecture. Freight operations ended on 1 December 1981. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station came under West Japan Railway Company. The unattended station sits 84.7 kilometres from the line terminus at Shin-Yamaguchi, with two opposed side platforms linked by an at-grade crossing. Average daily ridership in fiscal 2020 was only twelve passengers, reflecting its rural setting along National Route 9.
