History

Mitani Station is an Ibara Railway Ibara Line halt in Higashimitsunari, Yakage, Okayama. It opened with the Ibara Line on 11 January 1999 as a two-platform elevated passing station, with the platform stairs leading down to a station building underneath the viaduct — though passengers do not need to pass through the building to reach the platforms. The unstaffed station has no automated ticket machine, and the window inside the building is operated as a bicycle-rental office rather than for ticket sales. Track 2 is signalled as the up-and-down main line and track 1 as a siding (one-track-through layout); because the Ibara Line is local-stop only, platforms are normally used by direction except for some early-morning trains. During the 2018 floods, services from Kannabe terminated and reversed at this station.

Notes

The platform nameboard at Mitani is illustrated with a waterwheel motif drawn from Suisha-no-Sato Fruit-topia, a nearby orchard park, and the station provides 19 dedicated park-and-ride spaces in front of the building for Ibara Line commuters.
